SS Persic

WSL Persic - 1899-1927

The Persic was built by Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line as a cargo vessel for the Liverpool - Sydney route. On October 26, 1899 she made a daring rescue of the crew of the schooner, Madura, which had caught on fire. Persic was requisitioned as a troop transport during WWI. She was torpedoed by a  German U-boat (possibly U-87) in 1918 off of the coast of Sicily, but she somehow managed to limp in to port under her own steam. In 1920 she was refitted to accommodate passengers. She ran for another 7 years until she was scrapped in 1927.
