White Star Line Clipper Red Jacket 1854-1870's

One of the original White Star Line ships. It was purchased for White Star by the original owners, Pilkington and Wilson for $60,000. An almost unheard of price for a ship in those days. Red Jacket was a clipper ship with a composite hull used on the UK-Australia run. It was known as an "Extreme Clipper" one of the fastest passenger ships of her day. She carried first and second class passengers but no third class.  Later became a timber carrier from Liverpool to Canada. Red Jacket ended up in the late 1870's used as a coal barge.
