SS Doric (1st)


WSL Doric (1st) 1883-1911

Doric sister ship to Coptic and Ionic. Built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast. Used on the UK to New Zealand route. She was later charted to Shaw Savill & Albion and then to Occidental and Oriental Lines making runs to Hong Kong. She was sold to She later ran aground off of the China mainland coast at Taichow Islands, Zhejiang (islands) which ultimately sealed the fate of this beautiful ship. In 1906 she was sold to the Pacific Mail Company and renamed Asia. She was a passenger favorite at the time exhibiting the finest luxury in 1st class accommodations.
