White Star Line Republic (1st) 1871-1910
Republic was the second of a quartet (Oceanic, Republic, Baltic and Atlantic) of liners built exclusively for the White Star Line under the new ownership of Thomas Henry Ismay. She was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast in 1871.Republic was originally slated be named Artic, but due to a last minute change in her service route, she was renamed Republic. Republic was later sold to Holland America and sold again to an Italian shipping company. Republic was scrapped in 1910.
